According to local legend, a young woman was killed in a car accident on her prom night along County Road 19. Her ghost is said to appear wearing a formal gown and corsage, often standing in the center of the road or on the old railroad bridge over Hog Creek (also known as the Ottawa River). Witnesses have reported swerving to avoid her only for her to vanish upon approach. The haunting is most often reported at night, particularly in the vicinity of the bridge just south of State Route 114.

Some accounts suggest the legend may go back further than the era of school proms. A 1902 article from the *Delphos Daily Herald* reported a similar ghostly figure seen near a railroad bridge north of Kalida, suggesting an earlier origin for the story.
