The legend originates from the belief that the land purchased by the church in 1852 was already suspected to be haunted, which contributed to its low purchase price. In March 1969, after the death of Dr. Maria Friedaburga—administrator of the shrine located on the grounds—unusual events occurred, including the chapel lights going out and flashing back on, followed by the appearance of a fireball above the shrine. Although these phenomena were later attributed to a malfunctioning transformer wire, some continue to believe they were supernatural in origin, possibly linked to Friedaburga’s spirit.
